Professional Organizations

Stage Managers Association - An association of stage managers who work in theater, dance, opera, industrials, events and other venues. A great place to meet and talk with fellow stage managers. For employers, the site includes a searchable directory of stage managers and an option to post available stage management positions to the membership. Members receive current job postings and have regular opportunities to participate in social and networking events and job observation opportunities.

OPERA America - A national service organization supporting the production and presentation of opera. OPERA America provides a variety of professional development workshops and hosts an annual conference for opera professionals. OPERA America also maintains a list of current job opportunities at member companies.

United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) - A great place to keep up with the latest in technical theatre. Also home to the Stage Management Mentor Project, providing opportunities for students and young professionals to gain hands-on experience at the annual USITT Conference & Stage Expo.

Unions

American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) - The labor union representing stage managers, opera and concert singers, and dancers at principal opera, concert, and dance companies in the United States. The AGMA web site provides links to many current collective bargaining agreements, links to all signatory companies, many resources for individual members, and current union news.

Actors Equity Association (AEA) - The union of actors and stage managers in American Theatre.

International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) - Union of technical craftspeople working in theatre, film and television production, industrial shows, conventions, and more.

Society of Stage Directors & Choreographers (SSDC) - Just what the name implies: the union of professional directors and choreographers for the stage.

United Scenic Artists (USA) - Union of Scenic, Costume, and Lighting Designers and Scenic Artists in the United States.

General Opera Resources

Operabase - A searchable database of opera performances around the world. Find current happenings by artist, geographic location, opera title, or opera company.

Castel Opera Libretti - Nico Castel has produced an extensive collection of opera libretti with IPA pronunciation guides to the text in the opera's original language as well as literal translations into English. These libretti are a great resource for learning operas.

Schools I Attended

University of California, Irvine - School of the Arts - I was on the stage management staff for lots of great things here, including my very first opera ever: Cosi fan tutte, my first ballet: David Allan's Cinderella, and the world premiere of a crazy Commedia dell'arte based improv show, The Venetian Physician's Magician, which went on to perform at theatre festivals in England and Spain before landing at "The Improv" in Brea, California.

Mission Viejo High School Drama Department - As a junior in high school, I "accidentally" stage managed the musical Annie here ... and the rest is stage management history! You can also visit the Alumni Page to see where my fellow classmates are today; from Broadway to Hollywood we are all doing great things!
